Football: Mercy! Windward keeps winning big

Maybe Windward should try playing eight on 11.

The undefeated Wildcats have been so dominant in eight-man football this season that the mercy rule has been invoked in every game they have played, typically by halftime.

That was again the case Friday when Windward beat host Cate, 50-0, in the quarterfinals of the eight-man Division I playoffs. The Wildcats have outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 573-39.

Windward plays host to Santa Clarita Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday in a semifinal.
