Football: Birmingham's Flournoy is ready to go

November 23, 2008 | 11:47 am

Flournoy

There's good news for Birmingham.

USC-bound De'Von Flournoy will play in Wednesday's City Championship Division quarterfinal playoff game against Narbonne.

The senior receiver-cornerback left in the second quarter against Garfield on Thursday with a bruised shoulder. He has gotten better each day this week, Coach Ed Croson said.

GeeDee

It's not a shock to me that Flournoy is going to play Norbonne is in BIG trouble...

Hello

THANK GOD THAT HE WILL PLAY. WE WOULD NOT WANT COACH CROSON TO MAKE ANY EXCUSES!!!!

Crenshaw Nation

And he makes a lot of excuses!!!

GeeDee

Excuses Birmingham does not need excuses did'nt we beat Norbonne 2 yrs ago i bet you had a excuse for that loss huh . Birmingham hasent lost a playoff game in 3 yrs well excuse coach Croson for winning...

GET REAL!

GEE DEE YOU NEED TO LIVE IN THE FUTURE NOT THE PAST! COACH CROSON'S CRYING ALL YEAR has made up for the drought we are going through in cali.

GeeDee

Get Real i do live in the future we are 1-0 right now going on 2-0 in the playoffs . I don't want to hear nothing about crying why is Croson crying because he said San Fernando should have not got a higher seed than Birmingham do you disagree with him , well i say if Birmingham played SF they well have that game won by halftime a couple years ago we use to play SF every year but we found out quickly they could not hang with us we use to smash SF that's why they are not on our schdule anymore . It's not just SF it's alot of teams Birmingham should be seeded higher then Birmingham is not a #9 seed i don't care how you look at if that's why Birmingham will smash whoever they meet in the playoffs because after 2 Championships bacc to bacc and 4 out of the last 6 Titles they want to go and dissrespect Birmingham with a #9 seed. Trust me Coach Croson will make shore everybody they play feel they pain

wow

Gee Dee,
So do you think and THINK before you answer (Oh Please think) that Garfield is worthy of playing you, because the game I saw it was not very easy to win like it was during your league games? I have a strong feeling that Garfield made you guys PLAY and Coach!

GET REAL

GEE DEE YOU MAKE AS MANY EXCUSES AS ED"CRY ME A RIVER"vCROSON. When you guys lost to garfield in your very home. "Crying Croson" had a million excuses just like you as to why you lost. The both of you didn't even give garfield the credit and respect that they deserved beating you. Hell maybe they did get lucky but the point is that they stayed with the champs and you couldn't even give them that respect.
Garfield moved up to the city championship division and took on the defending back to back city champions and defeated them in your house. Coach crying came up with every excuse then and he also could have left that in the past but he chose not to leading up to the rematch with garfield and again cried to the daily news and times as to why you lost. "We where looking ahead to crespi" "one of my players was academically ineligible" flornouy had a bad ankle" "we underestimated them" blah, blah, blah, blah I could go on but why. Anyone who follows high school football knows what was said.
Coach crying has lost a lot of respect with not only coaches and players around the city but also with his own "BIRMINGHAM FAMILY" and given the talent that birmingham has had the last few years it saddens me to think that besides winning that those young men haven't learned anything about Character!!
Gee dee you guys could get lucky and win tommorow and god forbid win the whole thing but the one thing that a ring wont bring you is character and respect. When garfield lost to you guys in the rematch, you didn't hear excuses or crying from those young men or there coaching staff. Those young men took away your invincibilty after the first game and lead you to your #9 seed. Playing all of those cream puffs in your league wasn't gonna give you a higher seed unless you guys beat taft and we all know what happened there"CHOKE"

Gee dee remember this ...
WINNERS NEVER MAKE EXCUSES!!

PurplePizzle

to GET REAL

somebody is a little upset/

GET REAL

Purple Pizzle im not upset by any means. Im just pointing out the facts. Birmingham has lost it invincibility and gee dee and coach croson are still with the "We are" the defending champs and they want to get respect for things that last years team did. Last years team is in the past and this years team is completely different. This years team has lost games that last years team would have layed a major ass whopping on.

If gee dee and coach croson want respect then they should do what winners do and thats just shut your pie hole and go out on the field and perform. A #9 seed for birmingham was deserving. They couldn't be placed higher to a team that defeated them head to head and after losing to taft they should be glad that they even got that high of a seed.

TIGER for LIFE

It's so funny to read how GREAT B-HAM has been in the past and how they beat SAN FERNANDO HIGH on a regular base, BUT what they DON'T tell you is that the talent HAS come from the SAN FERNANDO HIGH BOUNDARY? like MILTON KNOX from Pacoima.Coach Croson better get use to getting you're @SS handle by team 's like GARFIELD ON A REGULAR BASE. B-HAM will soon RETURN to being a NOBODY in high school football scene. Can't wait to hear your EXCUSE on why you 're TEAM got tapped TONIGH by NARBONNE.

GET REAL

Hey tiger for life I will share them with you.
1. The bus ride was long and they only had one bus. (Croson was already quoted on this one)
2. God was hating on birmingham and rained on there parade today. If the whole field was dry im sure they would have won.
3.Flornouy is still hurt and he refused to take any pain medication.
4. It was the refs fault!
5.The bench warmer was upset because his girlfriend dumped him for the guy on the academic decathalon team and the rest of the team had there mind occupied with that.

I can hardly wait to hear what gee dee has to say now.

Im surprised narbonne didn't choke since its there tradition to do year in and year out. Narbonne gets a young and hungry cougar team, who im sure coach garrett will have pumped up and ready to go, so maybe they will keep that tradition alive or will they turn the page and finally reach the promise land. Guess we gotta wait till next friday night.
