Hello? Anyone working in the Los Angeles Unified School District? Is there a superintendent? Is there a local superintendent that oversees Eagle Rock High?

It’s time for someone high up in the LAUSD to intervene and stop the mess that continues to unfold at Eagle Rock. The latest was the new coach, Johnny Lopez, being assaulted by an ex-player.

Tension has been mounting since the firing of former Coach Jerry Chou and his dispute with Principal Salvador Velasco. I’m not going to make any judgments other than things are out of control. When a team has to forfeit a game for lack of players, that means somebody needs to step in.

The City Section doesn’t take kindly to forfeits. It got a bad reputation 31 years ago when Lincoln forfeited a game to Wilson when it refused to play after falling behind, 63-0, at halftime.

There’s no excuse for attacking a coach. But somebody has to start to heal the wounds at Eagle Rock, which once had a proud and successful football program. Where is the LAUSD intervention?
