Basketball: Stover is on the verge of making his college choice

October 2, 2008 | 10:29 am

Figured it was time to check in with Anthony Stover and see how the whole recruiting process was going, and apparently, the 6-foot-10 senior from Windward, who transferred from Renaissance Academy recently, is getting closer and closer to making a decision.

According to his father, Craig, the talented post player, with a fair amount of upside, has narrowed his choices to Arizona, Creighton and UCLA. In my humble opinion, Creighton seems a bit far. As for Arizona... Well, Lute Olson is known for developing point guards.

Guess that leaves the Bruins. Only time will tell. But if I'm Ben Howland, I've got to like my chances right now, especially because of the fact that UCLA has a strong reputation of being a good academic school, which is a key factor for the Stover family.

A decision could come at any point. Hopefully, we'll all know very soon.

Creighton has had 11 consecutive 20 win seasons, and 12 consecutive post season births; marks that only Stanford and Kansas can say they've accomplished. By the way, Creighton is the #1 university in the midwest and one of the top universities in the country. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/masters-midwest-search <--- link to USNEWS college rankings. Not to mention we average close to 16,000 fans per game, stats that UCLA and Arizona cannot compare too.

The Stovers did not have too many public comments about the visit to uclass.
On the other hand, the Stovers had many public statement about the Arizona Wildcats.

In addition, uclass has become silence about Stover and has created DISTANCE.

After the loss of GADDY, uclass still has some egg on their face. Still trying to recover.

If STOVER wants to ride the pine ;then, he will surely pick uclass. T. Morgan will be there for 2 years (he is not as polished) and 2010 recruits are coming uclass way.

LETS SEE HOW INFORMED THE LA WRITERS ARE?

PS:
How is the business degree at uclass?

Sean- Great analysis! I'm not sure why you wasted space to post the above drivel. Stover is definitely headed to Arizona...I guess you missed all the comments that said they were his number 1 choice, but he wanted to give UCLA their fair shake. Unfortunately for you, Howland couldn't get it done. Stover wants to play with Gaddy, Wise, and Moser and they don Arizona RED & Blue. Classy attempt at taking a shot at Arizona academics though, nice try. If you spent anytime researching and doing good investigative reporting, you would know that Arizona ranks very high in the departments that young Stover has interest in. You're writing is pathetic, looks to me like you need a few more classes and UCLA may not be the best option for you.

Hmmm...

"...cannot compare too."
"...uclass has become silence..."
"You're writing is pathetic..."

I'm just taking a stab here but it looks as if both Creighton and UofA have pretty poor English departments.

I hope he ends up at UofA as he would just be one more athletically gifted basketball player on a team that will be hard pressed to make the NCAAs due to the lack of toughness and team play.
