Football: Colorado keeping the pressure off Scott

August 20, 2008 |  4:48 pm

Scott_football My offseason vow to write less about Darrell Scott, pictured, is getting off to a bad start.

But I figured someone might want to know that Colorado isn't planning to have Scott carry it to the top of the Big 12 -- at least for now, anyway.

Colorado Coach Dan Hawkins told the Associated Press he's "not putting any pressure on [Scott] to lead us to the next level." This year is going to be more of a learning experience for the former St. Bonaventure standout even though he could still see a good amount of playing time in the backfield and on special teams.

It's good to see the Buffs are taking a slow approach toward acclimating Scott to the college game. With two other backs in front of him on the depth chart, Mr. Five Star will have time to grow and get more accustomed to the altitude and climate differences.

If all goes according to plan, Scott -- and the rest of the Buffs -- should be regulars in everybody's top 25 in a couple years.

As for me, I'll try to break my vow and keep you updated on Scott's freshman season. Still, I'm planning to do use plenty of electronic ink blogging about prolific prep RBs such as Cierre Wood, Ryan Zirbel and Malcolm Jones.
