To say Blake Stanton has been busy this summer would be an understatement. Week in and week out, the 6-foot-1 junior from Crespi continues to line up at wide receiver for the football team during passing leagues while still finding time to run the show from his point guard position with his hoops buddies at various tournaments.

There’s no rest for the weary, though, not when you’re considered a legitimate prospect in both sports. Even basketball Coach Russell White and football Coach Jeremiah Ross understand that it’s in their best interests to do whatever it takes to accommodate Stanton and his hectic schedule. It’s a unique situation for a unique individual.

‘I’ve had him the last two weeks and Jeremiah gets him for the next two, but you never know with Blake,’’ White said. ‘He’s a special kid that’s going to excel in everything he does right up until the day he graduates. At some point, Blake will have to decide which sport he wants to play at the next level, but it’s not decision-making time just yet.’’

UCLA’s Ben Howland and USC’s Tim Floyd have been in contact with him recently after seeing his freshman and sophomore numbers on the hardwood. And Bruins boss man Rick Neuheisel and Trojans head honcho Pete Carroll were interested in these gridiron stats, so it’s reasonable to expect Stanton to remain as busy as ever in the future.
