Football: Another weekend for passing tournaments

June 20, 2008 | 10:42 am

If you have gas money and can endure some heat, there are two good seven on seven passing tournaments taking place Friday and Saturday.

At Central Park in Saugus, down the street from the high school, the Saugus tournament begins Friday at  4 p.m., with the last game at 9 p.m., then resumes Saturday late afternoon, with the final at 8 p.m. Long Beach Poly, Alemany, Oaks Christian, Hart, Taft, Valencia, Canyon Country Canyon, Newbury Park, Westlake and Agoura are among the schools entered.

On Saturday at Beverly Hills, Narbonne, Dorsey and Culver City lead the way, with the final scheduled for late in the afternoon.

General Pride

This is the only time I'll ever say this, Way to Go Gauchos, Way to Make the Marine League look good. Joke and Bum played well. This may be strange coming from the Generals, but Narbonne is not whom I'm after on this. Beverly Hills High should be ashamed of how they ran their tournament. The elimination bracket was done before the first three rounds were completed. If you saw the brackets it was obvious that Beverly Hills High was trying to create an easy road to the finals. The top tier passing teams were put in one bracket, the teams that Beverly Hills showed no love to, were placed in their bracket. It's obvious, Beverly Hills High did not do their homework, if they did they would have known that the Generals came one game short from going to Atlanta in the Adidas "7 on 7" Tournament, the week prior. We were defeated by Upland High. Lets cut to the chase, first round elimination, Beverly Hills High vs. Washington High. They tried their best to steal, cheat and make up rules on the way, even the refs where Beverly Hill High Coaches, but that still didn't stop the Generals. We knocked them out in the first round. We made it to the semi final round and loss to Roosevelt High, who've we played for the fourth time in 2 weeks. Props to Narbonne High, but I told you, the Generals are coming.
