Soccer: Morales is named Santa Margarita's soccer director

Chuck Morales is now in charge of both the girls' and boys' soccer programs at Santa Margarita. However, don't expect him to be calling the shots on the sidelines of the Eagles' boys' games.

Morales, who has coached the girls' team to 11 league titles in 15 seasons, is not replacing recently retired Curt Bauer as the boys' coach. Morales will oversee both programs, handling the administrative duties for both teams, and continue to coach the girls team -- but not for much longer.

Morales, who is also the boys' golf coach, told me recently at a golfing tournament that he has been grooming his assistant, Eddie Huerta, to take over. Huerta already does a lot, Morales said, and the fact that he does a lot is something that factored into his decision to take this new position.

One of Morales' first duties will be to select a new coach for the boys' team, which, he said, should happen sometime later this month.
