Boys' basketball: Taft gets top transfer student

June 22, 2008 |  9:10 am

DeAndre Daniels, a 6-foot-8 junior who was a major contributor for the Renaissance Academy team that made it to last season's state Division V title game, is playing for Woodland Hills Taft this summer after enrolling under open enrollment, according to Taft Coach Derrick Taylor.

But whether Daniels ends up playing next winter for the Toreadors will depend on him making a legitimate change of residence. He's apparently in the process of moving, which is required under City Section rules.

The Toreadors learned two years ago what can happen when they don't thoroughly vet a transfer student. They had to forfeit games and ended up not making the playoffs.

All eyes will be on Taylor and Athletic Director Mark Drucker to make sure the transfer rules are followed.

Taft is playing today at 1 p.m. against Lancaster in the War on the Floor tournament.
