Boys' basketball: Crespi upsets Mater Dei

June 25, 2008 |  9:38 pm

Yes, Mater Dei's Wear twins, David and Travis, were absent. And Coach Gary McKnight was a no-show.

But Crespi was still feeling good Wednesday night after its 73-62 victory over Mater Dei in the Fairfax tournament.

Freshman Michael Avery scored 12 points and sparked an 18-2 run in the second half for the Celts, who will face Santa Monica in a quarterfinal game Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

Mater Dei had Andy Brown and Gary Franklin on the court but lacked energy in falling behind by 15 points in the second half.

Guard Blake Stanton turned in a strong performance for Crespi, scoring 16 points. Gabe Borboa added 16 points.

Sondhiemer your a joke....Why does this even get ink? MD was without 2 guys that average 18 and 10. Plus the head coach didnt even show up. Please wake up people you basically played MD's JV team plus Franklin and Brown and still only won by 11. Regular season MD wins by 20+
