Baseball: Claremont looking for a new coach

June 23, 2008 |  8:05 am

The administrators at Claremont don't exactly respond to questions from the media or anyone else when the subject of baseball Coach Mike Lee comes up. For weeks, they kept telling reporters to call the district office, and the spokeswoman offered no help, saying she doesn't comment on personnel matters. And she's in charge of personnel, which leaves one to wonder what she gets paid for.

Well, the word is Lee isn't coming back as coach, his contract apparently not renewed after one year. Before that, he left Westlake under pressure early in the 2007 season. Before that, he also coached at Newbury Park, where he didn't exactly have smooth sailing.

A Claremont parent writing a blog offers some observations. What's clear is that Claremont's fondness for secrecy only adds to the likelihood that the people in charge don't know what they're doing.
