Football: Upland's Nunes could commit sooner rather than later

May 27, 2008 | 10:49 pm

Josh Nunes is one of the few big-time prospects from the Southland that hasn't made a decision about where he plans to play his college ball. However, it appears as if the junior quarterback from Upland is moving closer and closer to making his choice.

With 20 scholarship offers on the table, Nunes narrowed his list to eight earlier this week. Florida, Oklahoma, Stanford and Tennessee are still in the running, along with Arizona State, Brigham Young, Harvard and Nebraska. Turns out, Notre Dame and Louisville are no longer in the mix.

"I wanted to reduce the number to five schools but, after long consideration, at this time, the best I could do is eight,'' Nunes said. "I have had great conversations and relationships with all the schools who have offered me... I am very confident in my top eight that I have chosen at this time."

At one point, the list included California and UCLA. That is, of course, until Mission Viejo's Allan Bridgford and Los Osos' Richard Brehaut recently committed to the Golden Bears and Bruins, respectively. Nunes figures to be next, before the end of the summer is my guess.
