Softball: Garden Grove Pacifica holds on for 1-0 win

May 22, 2008 |  6:03 pm

Dsc01551a Lakewood pitcher Aubray Zell, pictured, had 10 strikeouts and allowed only three hits, but it wasn't enough as Garden Grove Pacifica beat the Lancers, 1-0, Thursday in a quarterfinal of the Southern Section-Toyota Division II playoffs.

Pacifica (22-10), the defending division champion, scored the winning run on a throwing error by the shortstop in the third inning. Andrea Harrison, who led off the inning with a double, went from third to home on the error.

After getting the lead, starting pitcher Katie Tamayo (7-2) and the defense took care of the rest in shutting out the third-seeded Lancers (27-6).

Said Pacifica's Kristen Arriola, whose aggressive base running forced the error on the scoring play: "That was Katie's best game ever. [Zell] was great, but [Tamayo] came through."
