Football: RB Gilmore to use rumors of transfer as motivation

May 21, 2008 | 10:02 am

Wilson_2 Hacienda Heights Wilson running back Tim Gilmore has a message for you: Stop hating.

Gilmore, a junior pictured at far right, has been the subject of many transfer rumors this semester. He's not happy with what has been said on blogs and message board, most of which seem to have him penciled in as a starter in Bishop Amat's backfield. He says that's not true.

"It makes me mad [what people have been saying] because they are questioning my loyalty to Wilson," said Gilmore, who will participate Friday in the Masters meet 100 meters race. "But people will see, they'll see I'm loyal to Wilson."

It's easy to see why people started talking about Gilmore transferring to another school. Last season, Gilmore rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and scored 22 touchdowns. Coaches tell me his breakaway speed and his agility and ability to evade would-be tacklers is terrific.

Combine that talent with Wilson hiring a new coach and it's easy to see why people started talking, but it was wrong to do so. People need to remember that this is high school sports and that they are kids. Having said that, I hope your team doesn't play Gilmore this upcoming season because he seemed really annoyed by all the talk and he is likely to take out his aggression on the field.

I hope the kid stays with Wilson. Truly, it does little to switch schools. It always sounds enticing but kids need to make the best of where they are at. Just good life lessons.
