Football: Clarkson is impressed with UCLA QB commit Brehaut

May 26, 2008 | 10:45 am

On Monday, Los Osos quarterback Richard Brehaut announced he has committed to UCLA, and quarterback guru Steve Clarkson offered his endorsement.

"I think he's a tremendous quarterback," Clarkson said. "He's very mobile, very accurate and throws a great spiral."

Brehaut won out over Upland's Josh Nunes, who Clarkson also thinks highly of, in an apparently close competition for the UCLA scholarship.

"I've seen both, and they're tremendous," Clarkson said.

Although Richard Brehaut (Los Osos High) is a decent choice for QB --- once again Norm Chow doesn't get it right. That is why he will NEVER become a head coach even at the Pop Warner level. Nice stint in the NFL Norm. After passing on Josh Nunes 4.6 gpa /1950 SAT score. & returning League MVP (same league as R. Brehaut) I will be the first one to congratulate UCLA on another weak recruiting effort.

Tom Jones

Richard Brehaut is a much better quarterback and leader than Nunes is. Brehaut is a better athlete with a better arm. Also Los Osos has beaten Upland (Nunes school) the last two years with Brehaut and Nunes at QB for their respective schools. Brehaut has lead Los Osos to two Baseline League Championships. He is a great QB and a great kid.

James King

Brehaut was tied with Nunes for league MVP although he had more passing yardage and 8 more TD passes, he also outrushed Nunes 556 yards to 44 for the season. Nunes is pretty good but UCLA got the better athlete and better field general.

Richard and Josh are both good QB's.
It is interesting though that no one seems to know that TED LANDERS of SERRA H.S. was in the running for the UCLA offer. Norm CHOW came out to SERRA at the same time he was looking at the other two and was very impressed Ted Landers.
It is also interesting that the final two QB's being considered for the UCLA offer were Richard and TED. Both went head to head at the UCLA camp last weekend and its to bad the offer wasn't made until after the weekend !!!!!!!!!

Ted was never in the running, I know that for a fact!!!

.......

Hey, I believe Ted Landers is an excellent quaterback. He works hard in the classroom and on the field. He is a determined quaterback who strives to be the best. Running isn't needed for this quaterback, as he has many receiver threats and also a nice running back.

I don't know about Ted Landers and his ability to play at the D-1 level yet. After watching him I think it would best serve Landers to go and play JUCO for two years and clean up the rough edges and learn how to throw more effectively with the shorter patterns. He needs some help with his footwork and it appears that he ran for less than 100 yards in each his junior and senior year. Richard Brehaut is ready now. Ted Landers needs two more years to get some help in a smaller program such as at a local JC or in the NAIA conferences and then maybe transfer to a bigger level.
