Valencia’s 6-foot-7 middle blocker Skyler Seymour has committed to BYU. The senior played a valuable role in pushing the Vikings to their eighth consecutive Foothill League championship and is one of the reasons top-seeded Valencia is considered a favorite for the Southern Section-Toyota Division II title.

The Vikings still have a ways to go before they can claim their fourth divisional title since 2003. Villa Park might not offer the biggest challenge on Tuesday, but Valencia is expecting to face some serious resistance from the semifinals onward.

‘Laguna Beach and Dos Pueblos are very good teams,’ said Valencia Coach Mark Knudsen in regard to the other top teams on the Vikings’ side of the bracket. ‘Either one can push us.’

Despite Knudsen’s somewhat cautious outlook, I think the Vikings are the best in the division and I’m rooting for a Valencia-Santa Barbara rematch in the final on May 24.
