Track and field: Top SF Valley/North athletes look ahead to state finals

Cif_logo_2 The state championships are more than a month away, but that's not going to stop me from predicting which regional athletes will be performing in the big dance. Here are all the athletes I expect will be thanking their lucky stars they won't have to drive up to Sacramento this year to strut their stuff (the state championships are at Cerritos College).

I've included each athlete and team's ranking in the state along with their top times in each event.

BOYS

  • 100 meters -- 3. Chris Owusu (Oaks Christian), 10.60; 7. Sean Alfino (Rio Mesa), 10.72
  • 200 meters -- 1. Chris Owusu, 21.30
  • 400 meters -- 3. Marc Watley (Crespi), 47.29
  • 800 meters -- 7. Doug Bettisworth (Oak Park), 1:54.41
  • 110 meter hurdles -- 2. Ryan Holmes (Loyola), 14.32; WA: Mikio Island (Crespi), 14.50
