Upland's Nunes continues to emerge as a top prospect

Mustangs_2With each passing week, it seems as if I receive an e-mail from the football coaching staff over at Upland notifying me that Josh Nunes has picked up another scholarship offer from an NCAA Division I program. And, true to form, there was a new message in my inbox yesterday.

SMU is the most recent school to join in on the Nunes sweepstakes, making things official on Monday. All of a sudden, 13 colleges are patiently waiting for a commitment from the the 6-foot-4 junior and six of those offers have been presented to him over the past month, or so.

"The whole recruiting process has been crazy lately, surreal at times,'' Nunes said. "It's been a fun ride. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about all these schools, so when the time comes, I can make the right decision.''

My first blog about Nunes was toward the end of February, and at the time, Stanford had just upped the stakes, becoming the fourth team to court him. Cal, Colorado and Louisville are among the other potential suitors, along with Arizona and BYU.

Powerhouse programs such as Notre Dame, Oklahoma and UCLA have also expressed interest but have not offered a scholarship -- at least, not yet. With the way things are going, that could change any day now. Stay tuned...
