Defending champion Taft was awarded the No. 1 seed for the City Section’s upper division playoffs by a seeding committee Tuesday night at Hamilton High. Taft was seeded third last spring but upset top-seeded Palisades 21-8 1/2 in the finals.

The West Valley League champion Toreadors will have a bye in the first round of the 12-team tournament, as will No. 2 Palisades (the Western League winner), No. 3 Eagle Rock (the Northern League winner) and No. 4 Van Nuys (the Sunset Six League winner).

The playoffs begin next Monday with No. 9 Chatsworth at No. 8 Venice, No. 12 Cleveland at No. 5 Carson, No. 6 Granada Hills at No. 11 Franklin and No. 7 L.A. Marshall hosting No. 10 El Camino Real.

Eastern League champion Roosevelt was seeded first in the 16-team Invitational bracket, followed by Monroe, Banning, Narbonne and Reseda. Singles and doubles seedings for the City Individual tournament were also determined but won’t be announced until after the team finals on May 9.
