Softball: Simi Valley puts perfection on the line against T.O.

April 1, 2008 |  1:47 pm

Simivalley I'm not 100% sure, but I'd have to guess that No. 13 Simi Valley (15-0, 2-0) has the best record in the Southland right now. The Pioneers put it on the line this afternoon when they visit No. 14 Thousand Oaks (10-2, 2-0) at 3:30 p.m.

They played last week in the Righetti Best of the West championship and the game went to the wire. Simi Valley scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning, the last on a hit by Briana DeFlavio, to win, 7-6. Sam Fischer, who was MVP of the tournament, had a homer, a triple, and scored four runs.

Tournament championships are nice, but today both coaches would rather have the Marmonte League victory. First place, at least temporarily, will be at stake as the teams position themselves for the Division I playoffs.

Yes, it's early to talk about positioning one's self for the playoffs, but with only two shots (in most cases) against a rival, every shot counts.
