Boys' basketball: Simi Valley's Jackson signs with Pepperdine

April 17, 2008 |  4:15 pm

Jackson_2 Simi Valley point guard Lorne Jackson signed with Pepperdine on Thursday afternoon after committing to the Waves last Friday.

"I know they had a bad year and I want to be a part of the rebuilding process," Jackson said. "I'm really excited to be playing for them."

Jackson, who averaged 23.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.8 assists for the Marmonte League champion Pioneers, had also been considering George Mason. He said the potential for being a four-year starter played a role in his picking Pepperdine. The 6-foot-2, 185 pounder also said staying close to home "was nice," but it didn't necessarily influence his decision.

He met several times with new Pepperdine Coach Tom Asbury and decided the Waves were the best fit.

"I really like the atmosphere and it's a great opportunity," Jackson said. "I just want to thank all of my coaches and teammates for helping me get this far."

Jackson was recently named to the CalHiSports.com All-State second team and was chosen as the Marmonte League's co-player of the year along with teammate Mike Meza this season.
