Wood commits to play in Army All-American bowl
He already has 14 scholarship offers on the table, and now Santa Clara RB Cierre Wood is planning to keep the first weekend of 2009 open so he can play in one of the nation's most distinguished high school all-star games.
According to Scout.com, Wood has committed to play in the 2009 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Wood, who rushed for more than 2,600 yards as a junior en route to leading the Saints to the Mid-Valley Division title, is one of the most-sought after RB prospects in the nation.
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait at least until late September before we'll know if he's been chosen to represent the West Team in the annual showcase, which will be played on Jan. 3 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Tex. There's plenty of football to still be played between now and then.

I saw a on Rivals.com article that seven other top-rated players, including Wood, are committed to play in the U.S. Army All-American game. The article said several more players will be making commitments soon. When are all the players officially announced? I thought it's later in the year?

John,
It is my understanding that six players have officially made commitments to the bowl game (Wood being the only Southland player to do so). However, expect this number to shoot up substantially over the next few weeks.
All of the players on the West and East rosters will not be announced at the same time. The organizers make announcements throughout Sept. and Oct. For example, St. Bonny's Darrell Scott was officially name to the West roster in late Sept. last year, but Notre Dame's trio of Dayne Crist, Wes Horton and Anthony McDonald were not officially named until a few days later.
