Girls' basketball: Narbonne takes overtime loss hard
Narbonne's emotion first bubbled over, then erupted.
Reiko Thomas haltingly blamed herself for the Gaucho's 60-47 overtime loss to Long Beach Poly in Saturday's Southern California Regional Division I final. "I had a couple of mental lapses that gave them the momentum," she said. Once outside the interview room, Thomas fell sobbing into the arms of red-eyed teammate Gabrielle Clark.
But C. Danielle Lenior, who is headed to Washington State, managed to give some perspective on a team that won championships and had them taken away by sanctions.
"I'm proud of everything we've accomplished," Lenoir said. "We won [City] championships, gone to the playoffs every year except for last year ... some of us have been playing together since the ninth grade.
"And now it's over."
