Field goals are hard to come by in third quarter of Division III final

Basketballnetmaze Only two fields goals were made by each team in the third quarter of the girls' Division III state championship game at Arco Arena in Sacramento. San Francisco Sacred Heart leads leads Magnolia, 31-27, heading into the fourth, but the Fightin' Irish hardly look like the top-ranked team in the country. They shot 17.9% from the floor in the first half and weren't much better in the third quarter.

Latrice Henderson scored Magnolia's second field goal of the quarter after securing an offensive rebound after a missed free throw. She layed it in at the buzzer to cut the deficit to four. Let's see if that turns out to be a big bucket.

Sacred Heart guard/forward Tierra Rogers had to be helped off the court after taking a spill with 5 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter and her team leading, 23-18. Her teammates didn't flinch, however, maintaining the lead until she returned two minutes later.

Magnolia Coach Michael Anderson has just about lost his voice. He keeps trying to yell out commands to his players, but he sounds more like screeching brakes.

Magnolia's best player, Jhakia McDonald, received her fourth foul in the opening minute of the fourth quarter and Anderson said she'll have to sit on the bench until the five-minute mark.
