Boys' basketball: Millikan assistant pleads guilty to sexual assault

March 23, 2008 |  1:29 am

Justice

A former boys' basketball coach at Millikan pleaded guilty this week to charges that he had sex with a 15-year-old boy while on a district campus.

Dionn Semaj Holton, 32, a substitute teacher in Long Beach, reversed an earlier plea of not guilty to charges of sexual assault on a minor. He had been accused of having a student at Long Beach Cabrillo perform a sexual act on him in a classroom during school hours.

Holton had played basketball at Long Beach Poly on its 1994 Southern Section championship team and later at the University of Portland. He had been a substitute teacher in the Long Beach school district since 2000. He was also a volunteer assistant coach on the Millikan varsity boys' basketball team.

The Press Telegram has more information about Thursday's courtroom drama. Sentencing is scheduled for April 24.
