Scott's pick of Colorado ends months of speculation

February 6, 2008 | 11:12 am

We finally found out the answer to Southern California's most-anticipated recruitment question of 2008, and I'm sure the Buffs' faithful are happy with what they've heard.

St. Bonaventure RB Darrell Scott, one of the highest-rated high school running backs in the nation, ended months of speculation on Wednesday by announcing he will sign with Colorado. Scott made the decision live on ESPNU at the ESPN Zone in Anaheim in front of his mother, Alexis Scott, St. Bonny assistant coach Pepe Villasenor and a few media representatives.

Still, Scott kept us guessing the entire way. He brought two hats to the announcement -- one Colorado, the other Texas -- and set the two caps on a table next to him before putting on the Colorado cap seconds into his ESPN interview.

ESPN wasn't the only ones to get an interview with the All-American. Check out this quick interview I had with Scott immediately after he announced his decision to the world:

This recruitment has hair on it. How does a guy that is a lock to Texas two days ago suddenly flip flop so hard to the point that he isn't taking calls from their staff and his mom has cut off contact with their coaches and local media outlets? Hmmm...

I need more information than I currectly have to understand any stories, opipions befor I fee comfortable speaking clearly.

A certain young girl has a stepsister who is getting married to someone involved in the Darrell Scott saga, soon to be on VHS and casette. Okay. I'm making that part up. I'm sure ESPNUand Momma Scott can work up a slick production of her son Darrell's scam job getting recruitied from CU and UT. To make a final storay short, DS lied all the way through this fiasco because his story needed a patsy. He chooses UT. His Momma, needing a better job in Boulder, plus she has to sign his LOI, made this a foregone conclusion.

But DS and his momma can't just sign the paper and get Darrell ready for his college life. Oh, no. They need to write about his recruitment, a documentary. Hmmn. They need a big university to play the "I really want to play for you" card. So they have Darrall mention that he's interested in playing football for the University of Texas. This was unsolicited. So Texas checks out the overtures, with Momma in the background hoping to hope that they believe it. They do. Now, the rest of the script has been prepared. All they need do is put in the parts pertinent into the script and have it ready for National Signing Day.

Suddenly, Darrell has a sudden change of heart -- he had kept this allusion in existence for as long as need be -- and his now move his talents to Boulder.

Now the documentary his finished. Listen to the faullout -- and there will be fallout -- keeping in mind whether you hear something from Momma saying she would like to move to Boulder to be able to watch her son play. Maybe should find a job of there. However, the cost of living is higher than in the St. Bonnie area and the job will have to pay for the higher living necessities.

Now, of course, the documentary will squelch all argument that her change of address and ever-increasing bank account have nothing to do with her forcing her son to sign with UC. After all, even with Darrell's signature, the LOI requires momma's signiture before it is legal and can be faxed over.

Now his publisher, who give advance monies to writers who need cash to pay their bills wihle they write, has his patience and money rewarded. He will print, publish, produce and pander this farce to the general public.

Oh, wait, Darrell can't get the money as long as he's in school and on scholarship. But he resolves that by investing that money in the bank where his mother is expecting to take her new employment.

Keep whining JB...coming from Texas, that's classic

As a UT alumn, I could not be more embarassed at some of our fans antics right now. You're embarassing your university and state. :Please be gracious to Colorado, and stop smearing that program with these rumors.

Congrats Darrell. You made the right choice - you're going to be the big man on campus and be a part of re-building a top 25 all-time program back to perrennial dominance. Nothing is as exciting as that.

Big props to Coach Darian Hagan for bonding so well with this young man.

The atmosphere in Boulder is going to be electric!

GO BUFFS!

p.s. sorry longhorns, i know in order to beat you out we 'must have cheated' right? get a grip.
