Football: The Wildcats land two big men from Ventura County

February 6, 2008 |  4:26 pm

Arizonafbhelmet1Don't look now, but Arizona is quietly assembling one of the better recruiting classes out West, due in large part -- no pun intended -- to the national letters of intent signed on Wednesday by two of the best from the 805, massive offensive linemen Vaughn Dotsy of St. Bonaventure and Trace Biskin of Oaks Christian.

Both stand more than 6-foot-5, tip the scales at more than 275 pounds and are ranked among the top 55 players in the country at their position by Rivals.com and Scout.com. Got to admit, standing in between the future Wildcats while attempting to do an interview was interesting. It must have looked odd. Perhaps that's why the guy from KCAL9 stuck his camera in the faces of the three of us.

"Arizona needed some big guys up front and they got two of the best from our area,'' Dotsy said. "I've talked to Trace and he's a cool guy. We get along well. I'm looking forward to lining up next to him. We want to go in there, work hard, earn some playing time and take things over together. We want to be leaders.''

The Wildcats managed to land several prized prospects on the other side of the ball as well, including defensive back Robert Golden and interior lineman Solomon Koehler. But the most intriguing player heading to Tuscon is quarterback Matt Scott from Corona Centennial, an athlete both Dotsy and Biskin are eager to protect for in the future.

"With everyone coming in next year, Arizona is one of those programs that's about to turn the corner,'' Biskin said. "The timing couldn't be better for Vaughn and myself. Plus, we can reminisce about the old days, back in California. It's a perfect situation. We can't wait to get things started.''
