Well, it looks as if Rick Neuheisel and his new sidekick, offensive coordinator Norm Chow, are making a last-minute lunge for the highest-rated running back prospect in the nation.

According to St. Bonaventure recruiting assistant Roger Sonsini, Nueheisel and assistant coaches Bob Palcic and DeWayne Walker visited the Ventura school on Tuesday and talked with Darrell Scott in what has to be described as a last-ditch attempt to wrestle the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder from the recruiting grip of Texas and Colorado. National signing day is Feb. 6, and I think Neuheisel is just a little too late to catch the Scott express.

Scott supposedly isn’t ruling out making an official visit to the Westwood campus in the upcoming days, even through Sonsini doesn’t think it’ll happen. ‘He’s staying focused on what’s in front of him and that’s Texas and Colorado,’ Sonsini said. ‘It’s still just between those two schools.’

Scott will make his announcement on Feb. 6 at the ESPN Zone in Anaheim . The event will be televised by ESPNU.
