League play in boys’ basketball continues this week, and the Western League -- stocked with Fairfax, Palisades and Westchester -- will have the toughest time crowning its champion.

In fact if all three teams stay healthy and intact, the one that finishes third is going to a nightmare first-round matchup when the playoff seedings come out. These three are the only teams from the Western League that have decided to participate in the City Championship Division.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t other interesting league battles....

Fremont is the best in the Coliseum League with Dorsey, Crenshaw and Manual Arts scrambling for what’s left. Narbonne, Washington, Gardena and King-Drew are bunched together in the Marine League. And Grant, which has won six of its last seven after losing seven of its first eight, should keep the Sunset Six League from being only a two-team battle between Verdugo Hills and North Hollywood.
