SFV Tournament lives up to expectations
It all began with 32 teams, and now, only two remain. Palisades and Beverly Hills will meet in the championship game of the San Fernando Valley Invitational tonight at 8. The showdown between the emerging City Section school and somewhat surprising Southern Section program takes place at Alemany High and is a fitting way to end what has been a highly competitive tournament.
The Dolphins have been impressive, with seemingly easy victories over Hart in the semifinals and Knight in the quarters. Antelope Valley and St. Bonaventure didn't put up much of a fight in the first two rounds. Beverly Hills, on the other hand, was tested throughout, especially in the semifinals, a one-point victory over Venice.
Ultimately, this game could come down to an individual battle. Palisades relies on senior Aaron Hawk-Harris. The Normans counter with Percy Miller Jr., yes the same Percy Miller Jr. I blogged about last week. I think the Dolphins have the advantage. Regardless of the outcome, the tournament, in its third year, has been a success, a great venue for some great competition.

Actually, the individual battle was Percy Miller Jr. the Beverly Hills Point Guard against Taylor Shipley, the Palisades Point Guard. And as expected, Taylor out performed Miller as he has done in previous match-ups minimizing the effectiveness of the USC bound point guard. Throughout the entire tournament, Taylor lead Palisades to double digit victories with his passing, defensive intensity and floor leadership at the point guard position. It has been said "if a basketball game was a symphony Taylor would be the conductor". Although constantly overlooked and under-rated, Taylor Shipley consistently plays at a high level confirming Palisades 12 win -1 loss record. You should stop trying to hype the under achieving so called "ranked" players and notice a true player who gives 120% every game.
