Long Beach Poly draws first blood on a safety
So the ball just got snapped over the head of Orange Lutheran punter James Rammelsberg. He wisely -- I think -- ran out of the back of the end zone for a safety. Hmm, seems like the shoe was on the other foot last season, when Orange Lutheran benefited from a safety in its 23-22 victory over Long Beach Poly.
So, apparently, what goes around comes around.
It's a smart move, ultimately. The Lancers are able to keep Poly out of the end zone -- and off the scoreboard -- as Jordan Heinze's field goal attempt is blocked. Poly still is looking very stout thus far as it tries to put itself in the title game for the 21st time.
The Jackrabbits' first final was in 1919, their most recent in 2004. Poly won the 1919 game over Fullerton, 47-0.
I wonder if that game developed the same way?
Going into the second quarter, Poly leads, 2-0, but it clearly could be 5-0.

Actually, Heinze's field goal wasn't blocked. A bad snap foiled the attempt and the kick never got off.

Was parking really $20? For two high school football games? And NO UMBRELLAS?
