The most amazing statistic I discovered from last week’s playoff games came from La Palma Kennedy’s 34-0 Southern Division victory over Garden Grove Santiago.

Kennedy’s first score came on a one-yard run by Steven Salazar. It ended a 20-play, 66-yard drive.

Twenty plays. Sixty-six yards.

Talk about three yards and a cloud of dust.

Who is Woody Hayes? He was the iron-fisted coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, who preferred a smash-mouth brand of football from 1951 until he was fired in 1978 after hitting a Clemson player during the the Gator Bowl. He was a tough dude who believed three things happened when you passed the ball, and two of them weren’t good. In that photo, it’s snowing -- and he’s wearing short sleeves! He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
