Trabuco Hills had a Knight to shine

October 19, 2007 | 11:36 pm

Mustang_2 Still compiling data, but it sure looks like the most impressive performance of the night belongs to ... Trabuco Hills.

I have to admit, I wasn't going to be surprised if Servite beat Orange Lutheran, which it did, 23-13.

And I wasn't going to be surprised if San Clemente beat Mission Viejo, which it tied, 31-31.

But I didn't think Trabuco Hills had enough offense to carry the day against Foothill, a team that had averaged 43 points a game, when the teams played Friday in a Sea View League game. Trabuco has a nice defense, but its offense had averaged about half of what Foothill's did. Take away 45 points against Huntington Beach and 30 against Gahr, and the Mustangs had not scored more than 17 points in their other four games.

But their defense came through again, and so did the offense, in a 22-16 victory over Foothill (5-2, 1-1).

Trabuco (6-1, 2-0), which got 202 yards from Matt Wagner, now is in the driver's seat for the league title. Its next two opponents entered the weekend winless, which means everything will probably come down to the season finale against rival El Toro on Nov. 9.
