Anyone else see a pattern here?
Keith Donerson sure does.
Donerson, co-coach with his father, Willie Donerson, at Dominguez, could only feel empathy for Crespi after it was done in by three fourth-quarter touchdowns by Ryan Bass of Corona Centennial and the Celts (2-1) lost to the Huskies (3-0), 41-20, in a nonleague game Friday night.
Donerson's own team lost to Centennial, ranked third in the Southland by The Times, by the same margin with a 41-20 score that the coach said also did not reflect how close the game was until the last quarter of the Dons' season opener on Aug. 31.
Dominguez, ranked No. 13 by The Times, had trailed, 23-17, going into the fourth quarter.
Since that loss, the Dons (2-1) have used their double-wing offense, led by senior Davion Biddle and junior Marcus Darden, to rebound with a 49-20 victory over Pasadena and a 49-12 victory over Crenshaw.
"I know exactly what Crespi was going through," Donerson said. "That's what they do. They wear you down up front, and they really turn it on in the fourth quarter."
