The silver cocoons of summer could be targeting a new market. Airstream Trailers, noted furniture designer Republic of Fritz Hansen and Mini, an arm of BMW, are teaming up to build a special trailer/car combo that could have the designer cognoscenti making reservations at the nearest campground.

The project will make its debut at the upcoming Salone del Mobile show in Milan, Italy, and will run from April 21 to April 30 .

It combines three icons of style, the new Mini Cooper Clubman S, a smaller version of an Airstream trailer and the trailer's interior design ...

... by Republic of Fritz Hansen, the Danish premium furniture brand minimalist designer. The Airstream’s interior design, “[Draws] inspiration from the outdoor lifestyle of surfing,” according to the press release.

It will have new interpretations of Arne Jacobsen’s Egg and Swan Chair, Series Seven chairs. All will allow the fashionistas to enjoy the outdoor accommodations. It’s designed to capture the outdoor surfer look.

The Mini Clubman features black “wetsuit” neoprene accents with green trim and “jet black” paint. The 22-foot silver Airstream trailer will sport the same look, but the interior will cater to the surf set with a waterproof interior and a sun-bathing bed.

The perfect combo to surf Europe. Just be careful not to track sand everywhere.

This would take up two parking spaces, which would cause fights at San Onofre.

You don't think it would promote carpooling?

Sounds like a $50,000 package. Lets see:

For under $3,000, you can buy a Dodge/Plymouth Grand Caravan, toss the back seats, and have 8' x 4' x 4' usable space... more if your board goes over the top of the right front seat. Gets 20 mpg, fits in a single space, easy to drive. Not bad. Trestles killer van.
