The Prius becomes a target for vandals

autos cars Los Angeles Times hybrid Toyota Prius attacks target vandals Petaluma California arson There’s been a sinister development to the thoroughly hateful practice of vandalizing cars. While some misguided souls feel it’s necessary to attack gas-guzzling SUVs, an anti-hybrid backlash has resulted in one Toyota Prius being set ablaze and others being hit by rocks, hammers and even other motor vehicles.

The Edmunds website reports an incident in Los Angeles that occurred in July at 7 a.m. Investigators concluded that the fire that destroyed a new Prius (parked on a residential street) was the result of arson.

Meanwhile, the Prius Owners Group has informed its members of a spate of attacks that took place earlier this year in Petaluma, Calif. On each occasion, the damage was inflicted at night, on parked, unoccupied vehicles. One victim rented a Prius while her own was in the shop undergoing repairs, only to have that car damaged too. So far, no arrests have been made.
