Your morning adorable: Oklahoma dog Wall-e survives euthanization

Wall-e

Wall-e, an adorable Oklahoman puppy, is showing the world that cats aren't the only animals with more than one life.

The 3-month-old puppy was euthanized with five brothers and sisters and tossed into a waste bin behind a shelter, only to be discovered the next morning "as healthy as he could be" by an animal control officer.

Wall-e-puppy Wall-e and his brethren, all apparently very sick, had been left at the shelter in Sulphur, Okla. But because of overcrowding and their condition, the puppies were put down. When Wall-e was found "prancing" the next day he was eventually handed over to a veterinary technician who put the story of the black-and-white terrier mix on the adoption website PetFinder.com.

Where to begin with this miracle - pup. .... On Friday 2/18 him and about 5 of his siblings where left infront of Animal Control- due to over crowding and their scrawny appearance they were euthanized that night. ... Wall-e was euthanized twice- once in the arm and then in the heart.... he was believed dead and disposed of in the dumpster "with the rest"..... On Saturday morning (2/19) the animal control officer found him very much alive and hungry...... a young girl gave him the name of Wall-e based on the animated movie since Wall-e was also a survivor/ last of his kind and then came back :)

Prospective owners from all over the United States and Canada have looked in to adopt Wall-e.

"So many people are interested," Kloski told the Associated Press. "Now we're going through and trying to find the adoption applications for the best home."

I think its terrible the dogs were euthanized in the first place since they could have lived if they gave it time. The man who euthanized the dogs should be held up on charges. Of course, its wonderful this sweet pup found a home but what about the others? Our society spends billions on countless wars and squanders our resources but we can't spend a few million dollars to rescue pets from genocide? Score (1)for the US, (0) for humanity

Let's see if they give him to another unemployed person who hasn't asked their landlord if they can have a dog.

If he wasn't in OK, I'd go get him myself.

There are terrible jobs in the world but to look into the eyes of THIS dog and try to kill him twice should haunt you for the rest of your life.

And on top of it just thrown in trash come on they couldnt of at least burried them makes me not a fan of animal shelters AT ALL! Come on what kind of vet cant even tell the dog is dead? not a vet Id go to at all. But in this case good thing they were not burried after being euthanized.

All those "prospective owners from all over the United States and Canada" *do* know that there are lots ... and lots ... of other dogs to adopt, don't they?

WAS LOOKING AT THE STORY ABOUT WALL-E AND READ THE PART ABOUT THERE SCRAWNEY APPEARANCE.AND THEN THEY CALLED IT A BLACK AND WHITE TERRIER MIX. LOOKS LIKE TO ME THEY HAD A LITTER OF ITALIAN GREYHOUNDS THERE AND DIDNT KNOW IT. I HAVE A 9 MONTH OLD ITALIAN GREYHOUND AND HES GREY AND WHITE AND LOOKS JUST LIKE THAT DOG.IF THEY THOUGHT THOSE DOGS WERE SICK THEY DON'T KNOW VERY MUCH THATS THE WAY IG LOOK LIKE. SKINNEY AND WIREY GIVE ME AN EMAIL ADDRESS AND I WILL SEND A PICTURE.THOSE DOGS GO FOR UP TO A GRAND SOME PLACES.SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TAKEN THEM FAST..

Another one of God's miracles. Perhaps He is trying to tell us something by saving this puppy.

I am in a very small town in Missouri, it is 1:45 am on March 4th, 2011 and I am viewing this sad, but God moment story. I love animals very much, they love unconditionally as I do. I can truely see that God did not want this little puppy to die and and he does not want me to die today. This little pup has the bluest eyes, just like mine, I know we could heal each other's heart. If not me, please let me know that he found a deserving home so that I can have some comfort. I have lost so much of my life in the past few years, that I have not much joy left in my life anymore. I have been waging a war in a worker's comp case for some years now and fear that I will be defeated, leaving me no medical resolution to my work injury and my health has been suffering since.
My main wish is for this beautiful puppy to get the best home the he deserves.

This is very sad, very sad and I agree about spending money in foreign countries, but yet we can't help save our precious animals. I'm afraid nothing will ever happen until our goverment stops thinking of pets as property and starts thinking of them as precious animals, family members. I hope they find a good forever home for this precious Wall-e he deserves to have one.

I love how everyone always wants to adopt these pets when they miraculously survive some sort of trauma without receiving a scratch. Too bad this many people aren't interested in adopting neglected dogs without a great story to go along with it, or they wouldn't have to euthanize as many to begin with.

It's all for the attention, nothing more.

Doesn't sound like an animal shelter that should be in business at all! Shut that place down!

I want to adopt Wall E! Someone tell me how to get ahold of the person who has him

Where to start with this story? First, I am glad this puppy survived. But I have some info for the shelter it was left at. Let me start with the person doing the euthanizations. You DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING and should be relieved of your 'job' now. TODAY. And any 'humane' shelter would not toss animals in a 'trash can', especially without checking them medically to see if they are still alive. What the hell is going on at your shelter?

First of all what kind of shelter puts down three month old puppies because they were over crowding and their scrawny appearance. Then thrown in a trash bin. I am so mad right now that I can't even think. What this shelter doesn't check to see if the dog has a heartbeat to make sure it is actually dead. Plus, why was this done twice. Did it not work the first time so they did it a second time, which wouldn't you think they would make a 100% sure this poor puppy wasn't throw away alive. Let's not forget 5 of his brothers and sister are dead because that shelter was over crowded and their scrawny appearance . This shelter should be shut down. I am so happy that this baby boy is alive but I think something should be done about this crap of a shelter. If your overcrowded make some calls and find another shelter that is a non kill to help. These people that work at this shelter and own the shelter have no business working with animals. I am so mad right now.

It's not necessarily the governments problem. It's not really the shelter either. Many of those places run on donations and the money people spend to adopt. So I see this story as a happy one that at least one from the litter could make it out. I'm a glass half full type person I guess. So maybe instead of complaining on a forum you should either go donate all your cash or adopt every shelter animal if your sooooooo concerned. But you won't. So stop complaining, and enjoy a story of an amazing puppy who will probably never die lol and the fact that "people only want attention" by adopting an animal they saw in the news, is tripe. The humane society uses the media all the time to adopt pets out. Sometimes that's the only way people see them because they can't physically get to the shelter. AND they don't always put pets with an "amazing story" a lot of times its just a pet no one else wanted. I'm awfully tired of people saying how absolutely horrible the world is and its ALL thanks to the shelters and homeless animals. Personally I would like to see the government take care of the PEOPLE for once (they don't and you know it) let's work on getting PEOPLE homes first and then those people can give the pets a home. See how that works?

Human beings are always the cause of "overcrowded shelters," as they haven't the sense to spay or neuter, or they abandon or "ditch" animals by the scores. It is THEY who should be euthanized. Isn't it interesting that we live in a world where the right wing fights against abortion for humans, who are encouraged to overbreed, but few humans take responsibility for the animals unfortunate enough to live with them as pets? Disgusting.

Very sweet outcome for this puppy, thank goodness....I have two (2) questions?

1a) Why wasn't the dog properly euthanized?
1b) Why was it determined the dog was in fcat dead when he was not?
1c) What other such cruel and hideous practices go on as we speak?

2) Why was this dog suddenly healthy as can be, prancing about his deceased siblings and this behavior was on top of being allegedy killed, thrown into a dumspter and left for dead overnight no less? The other dogs were as sick as this one, correct?

Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth, shame on this shelter!

If people would just take the responsibilty of getting their pets spayed & neutered, this problem would not be so bad! I am so sick of hearing I want to let my pet experience birth at least once! Animals are happier & healthier when they are altered very young, they have less problems with social skills & are less likely to have cancers etc. We need to spread the word, get the testosterone driven men who dont want their dogs to loose their "manhood" educated. I am so passionate about this, and sickened over stories like these everyday. SPAY & NEUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liars, Your recount of the story has to be extremely exaggerated.

Sincerely,

The Latin Cats (MEOW)

Which story is right? First, it was told the puppy was sick and underweight. Then I read that the puppy was just running around the shelter and was captured and euthanized. I believe the second horrible story. Having lived in Oklahoma years ago, I visited the animal shelter in Norman. They kept animals alive for only 7 days and then put them down. Soooo glad I don't live in that state any more. SHAME ON YOU OKLAHOMA!

So much else I wanted to say has been said, so I'll pass on that. But it is REALLY bothering me is that the animal shelter thinks throwing animals (dead OR alive) in the dumpster as an appropriate form of "disposal." I hope this "shelter" is being investigated. Puppies are the most adoptable. Why were they not even observed for 24 hours to see how they would respond to some TLC? Was their "scrawniness" simply dehydration?

It is terrible what went on in this shelter in Oklahoma!!! They should shut these shelters down and bring these poor dogs somewhere else where they'll be treated better than this!!! More people need to adopt these beautiful dogs, puppies, kittens, cats, etc., Shame, shame, shame on these wicked people that treat these poor animals like this!!! How dare they??? It brought many tears to my eyes when I heard this about poor Wall-e!!! I am so happy that he survived, so very very happy!!! I have a beagle and my husband and I love our dog very much!!! I love this little guy Wall-E!!! He is so adorable!!! I hope he gets a loving home very soon!!! God will punish the people that mistreat all these beautiful animals!!!

Here's a newsflash--you don't have to be in OK to save a life. It's not just this little boy, this goes on every day, all over. So, since you can't have this guy, how about checking out your local shelter before another one like him is put down, and save a life today! And always, always spay and neuter.
