Adopt-a-Pet: Jack the Lhasa-poo [Updated]

LhasaPooLooking to adopt a small dog? Jack (ID# A1161367), a resident of the L.A. Department of Animal Services' South L.A. animal care center, just might fit the bill.

Breed: Lhasa Apso/poodle mix

Age: Approximately 1 year

Weight: 12 pounds

About Jack: "He walks great on a leash, is calm, quiet, affectionate and very polite," shelter volunteer and Animal Match Rescue Team Inc. founder Laura Beth Heisen says. "Pick him up and he melts in your arms. He is very playful, yet he knows when to tone it down, so he is always a joy to be around."

For more information: Meet Jack in person at the South L.A. shelter, 3612 11th Ave., or call (888) 4LAPET1 with his ID number to learn more.

[Update 11/9: Jack has been adopted! Congratulations, Jack!]

Thank you, LA Unleashed, for adding this feature to the blog.

Most people have no idea how many wonderful animals are waiting at local shelters to be adopted.

It's all about getting the word out so this can really help.

Wow!!! I had no idea that a city pound would have such a darling little boy. My mother has been looking for a small dog and I didn't want her to go to a pet store to get one, after all I've read about puppy mills and breeders. So I'm sending her this adorable picture and hoping she'll agree to drive to L.A. to adopt this little cutie!!

How on earth did such a sweet, cute little guy end up in the shelter? Maybe his owners lost their house or something. He does look a little sad.

Please continue to show more pound animals so that more people know they're there!! This is amazing.

THANK YOU for showing that there are REALLY CUTE little dogs at the shelters, too.

People need to know that the City and County shelters have dogs, cats and other animals of ALL sizes, ages and colors.

I hope that Lindsay, Carla and others who post to this Times blog keep showing that awesome animals available who will DIE if not adopted. To buy an animal from a breeder or pet store is a crime against nature.

What a great looking dog. I know someone who has what looks like his twin brother and paid over $1,000. If I didn't already have a rescue dog (they make the best companions), I would be down at the shelter instead of typing this comment.

It is so great that LA Times is posting pics of animals from the City Shelters. I bet most of their readers don't know that almost all of the dogs and cats in the shelters are wonderful, friendly companions who are in the shelters through no fault of their own. If more people can adopt a shelter pet, so many lives can be saved!

Just found out that this adorable little boy now has an Upper Respiratory Infection which is no more than a cold and is an airborne illness that they all get in the shelter, unfortunately. Having a little runny nose could mean a death sentence for him. Supposedly they have him on antibiotics, but he is in an environment where this particular illness is rampant. Isn't there someone out there who wants to adopt this sweet little guy and save his life? No animal should be at such risk from a little cold he got in the shelter. Please, someone help him.
