Adopt-a-Pet: Eve the American Staffordshire terrier

Eve Eve (ID# A1026732), an adoptable American Staffordshire terrier at the Harbor animal shelter, has had a hard life so far.  She's only about four years old, but seems to have spent most of them being used as a puppy factory by someone who clearly didn't care much about her welfare.

When Eve first arrived at Harbor back in April, she was terrified of people, according to staff member Nicky Gore-Jones.  Since then, she's blossomed into an affectionate, gentle dog who enjoys nothing more than cozying up with a human after going for a walk.  (She also lives for treats.)

"She's so loving and thinks life at the shelter is wonderful, so you can imagine the life she had before -- being bred and bred until she no longer served a purpose," Gore-Jones says of Eve, who is a special favorite at the shelter.  But, perhaps because of the low-hanging undercarriage that is a side effect of bearing a large number of puppies, most visitors to the shelter pass her by without a second glance; the shelter won't be able to keep her much longer, Gore-Jones says.

Meet Eve in person at the Harbor shelter, at 957 N. Gaffey Street in San Pedro, or call 888-4LAPET1 with her ID number for more information.

If those eyes could speak... This story really breaks my heart.

That's one SCARY, SCARY looking dog!

No way, No thanks, No how!!

What a beautiful little girl! I have puppy that looks just like her & she is so great with everyone she meets. I hope someone can adopt Eve; I bet you'd have a great friend and companion.

How could you think that dog looks scary? Are you one of those "all pit bulls are bad" people?

She looks frightened.
