Unlikely friends: Manni the wild boar piglet and Candy the terrier

Manni, a wild boar piglet, became fast friends with Candy the dog when he was adopted by the Dahlhaus family of Germany

Consider little Manni -- that's him on the right -- among the world's luckiest wild boars. He was found in rural Ehringhausen, Germany, starving in a field. Apparently abandoned by his mother, he was only a few weeks old, and he'd certainly started out life on the wrong foot.

Fortunately, Manni was adopted by the Dahlhaus family, who bottle-fed the piglet and introduced him to an unlikely friend: Candy, the family's Jack Russell terrier. Manni and Candy "play together every day. They play hide and seek, romp around in the hedges and bushes and just have a lot of fun together," Wilhelm Karl Dahlhaus told the German newspaper Bild.  From Spiegel Online:

Apparently Manni, who is now five weeks old, is even figuring out how to communicate with Candy -- he's learning to bark.

Animal lovers need not fear about Manni's long-term future. Although Dahlhaus is an amateur hunter, Manni isn't destined for anyone's dinner plate: This little pig will either stay with the Dahlhaus family or end up living happily ever after in a wildlife park.

If there is one thing in this world we love, it is a rescued animal. If there's one thing in this world we love even more than a rescued animal, it is interspecies friendship. Clearly, this story is a home run!  (More photos after the jump.)
