A little dog who survived a fatal crash is being flown home to Poway, Calif., the Associated Press is reporting. Zak, a 1-year-old Basenji mix, was been being cared for by the Nebraska Humane Society after his owner Robert Shields died after their semi crashed in Omaha. Once word spread that Shields’ widow wanted the dog to return to their home but she couldn’t afford the $300 airfare, American Airlines decided to waive the fee for Zak.

AP reports:

The dog named Zak was with 59-year-old Robert Shields on Sunday when Shields’ tractor-trailer rig drifted off Interstate 80 and hit a bridge support in Omaha. Police said Shields might have had a heart attack. The year-old dog was only scratched. Shields’ wife told the Nebraska Humane Society the family desperately wanted Zak home in Poway, Calif. Humane society spokeswoman Pam Wiese (WEECE) put out a call for help. American Airlines general manager in Omaha, Michele Henry, said Tuesday the airline will pay the dog’s fare of about $300. Zak is expected home Wednesday.

Although the video above is a little outdated as it was produced before American’s generosity, we thought you’d like to see Zak zip around.
