Germany’s Dortmund Zoo has a a new addition: two lion cubs. The babies are about a month old. (Their spots will disappear as they age, although remnants may remain on their legs and bellies.)

In the wild, a large percentage of lion cubs die before they reach age 2 (the numbers vary by location and range from 14% to 73%, according to the BBC). When a new male enters a lion pride, it’s common for him to kill all the pride’s existing cubs. Fortunately for these guys, they look well cared for, and not an adult male in sight!
