If you’re in the market for a new friend -- be it a dog, cat or rabbit -- you’re in luck this Valentine’s Day weekend. The six L.A. city shelters are holding a special adoption event on Saturday and Sunday with reduced adoption fees ($43 for a dog, $28 for a cat and $25 for a rabbit; and if you adopt two cats, the second is free).

Extra events are planned at the West L.A. and East Valley shelters, but the reduced fees are available at all shelters including the South L.A., West Valley, North Central and Harbor shelters. The event is from 8-5 Saturday and 11-5 Sunday.

This little pup is just one of the many wonderful pets available -- her name is Minnie (ID# A1009927) and she’s a spayed female Beagle mix who’s about a year old. Meet her in person at the East Valley shelter, 14409 Vanowen St., Van Nuys, or call (888) 4LAPET1 with her ID number for more information on how to adopt her.

To search for other adoptable pets, check out the L.A. Animal Services website.
