We’re hard-pressed to think of something more adorable than a Shiba Inu puppy -- and apparently we’re not alone in our esteem of this small Japanese breed (often described by fanciers as having a distinctly feline temperament).

Evidence: the Web phenomenon Shiba Inu Puppy Cam, which to date has received more than 9 million page views and has become (according to reliable sources in our office) the talk of cubicle-dwellers everywhere. Silicon Valley Insider even reports that the Puppy Cam may be the most popular live-streaming video ever!

So why, out of all the puppy videos out there, has the ShibaCam taken the Web by storm? Gawker’s theory:

We all want to be those puppies: the Shiba Inu fluffballs don’t have to worry about losing their jobs, or making money. They are completely provided for in their little box, their mom comes in and nurses them, and they have human caretakers who play with them as well. They’ve got it made.

If you haven’t already jumped on the Shiba bandwagon, you’d better do so quickly -- several of the puppies have already gone off to their new homes. Luckily, we’ll always have retrospectives.
