Luckily for a PetSmart Santa Claus (who posed for photos with pets in a ‘Santa Paws’ fundraiser for a New Jersey dog rescue group), he won’t need a rabies shot after all.

As we told you on Wednesday, unsuspecting Santa impersonator Jonathan Bebbington was bitten on the wrist and hand during the event by a large
-- very large -- cat named Benny. Benny’s owner split, causing speculation that the big house cat was in fact a young bobcat. With no further information (like proof of rabies vaccination) on Benny, Bebbington prepared to start the painful process of rabies shot treatments.

But the Associated Press reports that Benny’s owner, Christine Haughey, ‘came forward and produced vaccination records after learning that [Bebbington] might have to receive the shots.’ She told WMGM-TV that Benny is part house cat and part bobcat.
