Help for an (accidental) hedgehog parent

Hedgehog

Cady commented on an earlier post about hedgehog babies:

Help! My hedgehogs just had babies and we didn't even know she was pregnant. We had the male and female in together. We discovered the babies from their squeeks and discovered one in the mouth of the father which we promptly removed and place the baby with it's mother. Is there anything we can do to make sure the mother will take the baby back into her care and not eat them?

Well, Cady -- we can't claim to be hedgehog experts (although we do think they're adorable -- just look at the little guy pictured here!), but we are experts of the Google search if we do say so ourselves, and we came upon a resource that might help you:  Hedgehog Central.  They even host live chats several times a week and have active forums where we bet you can find an answer to your question.  Let us know how it all turns out!

Hedgehog fans in the audience -- any advice for Cady?

FYI: Hedgehogs are illegal in California I've been told. I looked up online at hedgehogcentral.com & it states that a hedgehog is considered a contraband pet & may be confiscated and either moved out of state or destroyed
