If you’d like to do something simple and quick to help homeless pets, look no further than FreeKibble.com.

Those familiar with the FreeRice campaign will get the concept immediately -- answering an animal-related trivia question triggers the donation of ten pieces of dry pet food to a needy animal shelter. (Unlike FreeRice.com, you can only answer one question a day -- but the kibble is donated whether you answer correctly or not.)

FreeKibble is the brainchild of 12-year-old Mimi Ausland, an enterprising animal lover who wanted to help the local shelter in her hometown of Bend, Oregon. ‘I volunteered at the Humane Society of Central Oregon, but I wanted to do something bigger to help the animals,’ Mimi told the Humane Society of the United States in a July article.

Since its launch in April, FreeKibble has provided more than 37 tons of food to eleven animal shelters across the country. Mimi has been featured on NBC’s nightly news broadcast and was named the ASPCA’s Kid of the Year -- and she’s even expanded her efforts to include FreeKibbleKat.com.
