Don't believe everything you read about pit bulls...

Pit bulls aren't so scary after all

Here at Unleashed, we've seen our share of pit bull debate -- stories running the gamut from good to bad to downright ugly.  But rarely have we seen a photo that made our hearts leap like this one does!

Submitter Kian explains that her two-year-old pit bull, Lulu, took these orphaned kittens under her wing.  See more great examples of interspecies friendship in the Your Scene album Four-Legged Friends (or submit your own photos -- we'd love to see 'em!).

i would just like to say i have a two year old red nose pit and she has never bit or has tried to bite anyone she is the most loving animal i have ever had

I also have a similar photo with my pit bull and my kitten, Spooky is a boy and was just a little over a year old when he also decided to take in two abandoned kittens that we were caring for under his wing.

I for one am quite disgusted with the bad rep Pit Bulls have. It's not the DOG, it's the PERSON who has the dog that ultimately becomes the judger of the dog's personalty outcome.

Pits my look scary but most are really not the nasty, mean, biting kind. My friend has 3 of them and they have never once bitten anybody! They are really gentle giants. I read somewhere they are rated the 2nd most compatible family dog - the first being the Golden Retriever.

THAT RABID BABY EATING PIT BULL IS SNACKING ON THOSE POOR HELPLESS KITTENS!!!!

i have a pit and she just trun three and she has never bit me or family or friends or my other 2 dogs and 3 cats ever plus i read in the news paper that they arent mean

i would say i have a 3 year old pitbull and she is the nicest of my 3 dogs i have a news paper that says the this breed is not mean but the just have more power than other dogs

i have 1 pit bull and she aint mean i read in newspaper that they just have more power than most dogs

yes this animal is and can be very dangerous and a killer but, so can almost any other dog or animal out there.

you can and never should trust an animal 100 % because they are able to do anything and even the nicest most loyal pets can turn and one day attack for no reason, but thats a risk with any animal.

its unfair that these beautiful dogs are so hated upon all for the fact that they are "fighting dogs" which is sick.
its right to take these dogs away if that is what they are being used for, but it is unfair to mark all these dogs as killers when they are lovely friendly and also could make brilliant family pets.

Any person who keeps any animal that has the capacity to kill their child -- whether it is a pit bull or a boa constrictor -- is gambling with that child's life, just as surely as if they keep a loaded gun around the house. Sure, it probably won't happen. But, in the words of Harry Callahan: Do you feel lucky?

I for one and disgusted by the way some people think of pit bull's and wolves. Both animal's have a thing in common but the first thing is having a bad rep like coyote's. Pit bull's are, like Leah said, are just nice. I think they are just some animal's that want to live like we do. Too many people think they are evil. My own friend said that! It hurt me badly. My friend has a Pit Bull named Rosco and he is just a happy-go-lucky doggie. I will tell you I am 13 and I'm saying it because people think just cause i'm a kid I can't do anything. I am creating a website talking about Pit bull's, wolves, and coyote's. Come to it and look at it. Email me any suggestion's I am about to make a leap to help wolves, Pit bull's, and coyote's everywhere as much as I can.

My pitty baby unfortunately developed a nasty habit of trying to squish anything that little. Although as a puppy he would play tag with our big black/white cat all the time so I know he loves kitties although where we would be that affectionate I don't know anymore. He's been attacked and hurt so many times by other peoples dogs (a week ago a black lab attacked him and my fiance at the park!!)that he doesn't really trust any animal anymore...He's blind so I'm not sure how to help him. We love him all the same. I would get another pitbull in a heartbeat although I would love to see bubba enjoying the dog park again..

I would just like to comment that i have a 3 year old american pitbull and a 1 year old blue nose and they are the most snuggly loving dogs and have never had any aggression toward anyone or anything and i have had them both since 6 weeks old.

i am the owner of a shephard/ ikeda cross and i hate how any big dog, whether it be pitbull, german shephard etc is portrayed as a killing machine. if any dog has ever been agressive it is because it has had a bad past or because of being miss treated

Pit bulls are bred to be fighters, however that does not mean that they are instinctively.

I think the fear comes from the fact that, if a Pit Bull were to attack, it would be worse than a Chihuahua, even if they have a better temperament, and not attack at all.

ANY dog is likely to bite anyone. Period plane & simple. I'm a dog groomer & I'm more scared of a little dog then some big Pit. Pits are one of my favorite breeds.

A couple years ago, I got bit at work by a Pit. I was in the hospital for a week & gone from work for 2 months. Never once did I blame that dog OR the breed. The people were trash. The first time the dog came in I had asked the owner what happened to its tail. Owner informed me it had broke a long time ago but & I quote "we never bothered to take him to the vet to get it fixed because we figured it'd heal on its own". EXCUSE me you LOSER!!!!! Neglect much!

Anyways, the dog has since then been put to sleep due to it biting me & their other Pit that was chained up outside their house (which was too aggressive to take anywhere) was also put down.

All in all, it isn't the dogs, its the owners.

I try to tell everyone that so-called "violent aggressive type" dogs aren't really so violent and aggressive. People decide to make so many of these dogs violent that they got a bad reputation, but, if taken proper care of, they are actually pretty sweet. Any dog can become violent if humans make them that way and any breed can turn out a mean-spirited dog. These breeds are no worse than others. In fact, rottweilers, German shepherds, and pit bulls are some of the sweetest dogs I've had the pleasure to meet. :)

MUST READ IF YOU THINK PITBULLS ARE NICE -pitbulls are Very DANGEROUS dogs i read that two pitbulls attacked this little 7 year old :( and one killed a human! if you dont belive me go on the internet try to look for it. But yea not All pitbulls are mean i have one named killer hes a guard dog and hes a bit mean sometimes but hes loveable. all im saying is pitbulls are good pets but watch out beacuse they are also one of the most dangerous dogs out there thats why they want to ban pitbulls from florida because SOO many attacks!! well not that much but some are dangerous. i hope the 7 year old is ok :)

Pitbulls were bred to be hunting dogs(bird dogs). They were "man-made" to be the best. Some people found that their birth defect of locking jaws would be a great way to win in the "pit" fights which were not started with this breed, but all breeds. Other people found out what a loyal breed this dog was and decided to keep him as a family pet.
If you want a dog that will protect you and your young ones, get a pit as a puppy, raise him up as your own child. If your kid is mean to another kid, you ground them right? Same goes for your family (pet) member. I am the proud mom of 3 two legged children and 4 four legged (pitbull) children. If you are too close to their babies(us) they will yell(bark) at you. If you come in the yard with us, you are their new friend, if you come in the yard without us, they will not bite you but they will guard you in one place til we come out.
Don't hate the breed, hate the abusive piece of dirt owners who don't love them.

When I was growing up, my younger brother had been attacked by a golden retriever. If you look up the statistics, pit bull attacks rank pretty similar to those of other breeds. Dogs are like humans, you cant judge all of them off one example. My pit bull border collie mix is so sweet and often mistakes herself for a lap dog. At the dog park, she jumps and plays and all the other dogs love her. While on vaation, I boarded her and the employees at the kennel said she was confident and friendly with all other dogs. So before you judge an animal, at least get to know it.

Well,I have been around pittbulls all my life and they have never done anything bad to me.if you think pit bulls are mean and 1000 percent killer your defilently WRONG!

I wanted to respond to this post by Linda, "Any person who keeps any animal that has the capacity to kill their child -- whether it is a pit bull or a boa constrictor -- is gambling with that child's life, just as surely as if they keep a loaded gun around the house. Sure, it probably won't happen. But, in the words of Harry Callahan: Do you feel lucky?" First of all, comparing any domesticated animal to a reptile is one heck of a leap. Secondly, any dog has the capacity to kill (there is at least one documented case of a pomeranian killing an infant). So, I can only assume that you're saying people with children shouldn't have pets? What a sad group the Little Rascals would have been without Petey, their American Pit Bull Terrier.

Everyone who owns a pitbull says they are the most loving dogs, and the reason for this is because it is true. My pitbull will love on any human, dog, cat, horse, bird, anything that lays its eyes on her because she is just filled with sweet love to go around. No other dog compares, because of how loyal these dogs will always be.
