From the Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction file comes one of the oddest EBay auctions we’ve seen since the woman who sold the monster who lived under her daughter’s bed.

Roger Bowman of Beaumont, Calif., is offering for sale the dog door pictured here, ‘a PetSafe brand door made of pliable dark translucent plastic material’ with one catch -- it appears (at least to some) to feature a Shroud of Turin-like image of Jesus Christ. Bowman says his dogs, Hercules and Max, created the image by passing through the door with grimy, wet coats following a rainstorm.

At the time he discovered the Christ-like (or, having seen the photos, perhaps ‘Christ-ish’ would be a better description) dog door, Bowman was considering giving Hercules and Max away. ‘Divine intervention,’ he says, caused him to change his mind. (Max has since passed on but, the auction notes, ‘If requested, I and Hercules will attend an unveiling event with 7 days notice provided purchaser covers travel expenses.’)

Going price? At present, a whopping $1,185 (which Bowman plans to use to pay his mortgage). The auction closes tomorrow.
