A favorite of the staff at L.A. County’s Downey shelter, Alex (ID# A3880431) was turned in by his owners when they decided he’d become too big. But Alex is a German Shepherd mix, so he certainly can’t help his impressive stature.

If you look closely, his collar reads ‘Top Dog,’ and everyone who’s met him echoes that sentiment. Alex is 3 years old and weighs 65 pounds; shelter staff say he’s incredibly sweet and friendly.

Bonus: he’s already neutered.

More information on Alex is available at the shelter’s website or by calling (562) 940-6898. (Or you can always visit him and his canine cohorts in person -- the Downey shelter is at 11258 S. Garfield Avenue.)
